The book spans the years 1922-1927, the monumental time period in which Yost conceived and saw through the building of the renowned Michigan stadium, all the while presiding over the Michigan football team as a successful and inspirational coach. This book is extraordinary in that it appeals to a wide audience beyond that of Michigan fans and football lovers. With consideration for historical context, author Robert M. Soderstrom extends details ranging from the financial woes facing the Michigan band to the rules governing the presence of co-eds at away games to the tough task of persuading the Michigan Board of Regents to support a new stadium. As such, this book offers so much more than a mere football story. The 368-page, hard cover, book is organized into thirteen chapters, incorporating a prologue and epilogue. The story proceeds chronologically, beginning with the season of 1922 that laid the cornerstone and concluding with the stadium dedication game in 1927 that pit Michigan against its infamous rival, Ohio State. Soderstrom injects a magical spirit into his account by including footnoted passages that present astute coverage of the events as they were perceived in Yost’s time.
