The greatest challenge for a restaurant today is to change with the times. Schuler’s Restaurant and Pub has been doing exactly that for a long, long time. For nearly a century, Schuler’s has embraced the best of its past while looking to the future. As a result, Schuler’s, the fourth-generation, family-owned restaurant in Marshall, Michigan, is an institution throughout the Midwest and beyond.

Schuler’s current president and CEO, Hans Schuler, presents the rich story of how his family has provided “quality food, prepared and served to perfection in an atmosphere of warmth and hospitality” since 1909. To complement the family’s traditions and memories, his son, Chef Jonathan Schuler, has assembled a collection of recipes—fresh contemporary dishes as well as new takes on old favorites from the restaurant. These recipes reflect the diversity and creativity that have always been a part of the Schuler family experience. For many people, Schuler’s is a name that evokes good friends, good food, a time remembered, a pleasure shared, and tradition, past and present. This is the story of a restaurant that has continued to evolve as it approaches a century of service to its guests. It’s also the story of a family, whose love for fine food and drink has made that evolution possible.
